Kilgore questioned:

I saw an condition in a paper (IBD I judge) that questioned the trace of the Prius (and additional battery cars) due to the pollution caused by the mining and the smelting of the nickel. I know it’s accurate to earthday, so what’s better a hybrid or a high mileage gas engine? Pls weigh in on diesel engines if you know what UR discussion about

Deliberate the energy looked-for and the pollution caused in mining nickel and making the batteries. Then the energy looked-for to transport the batteries to where the car is assembled. Plus the energy looked-for to payment the battery. Finally, reflect about the energy the car uses to reside in not one, but two engines. Isn’t it a joke?

Wolf Harper questioned:

I keep hearing Answerers say that hybrid batteries are not ecological.

Why do you say that material? Can you back it up with real waterproof?

The small lead-acid batteries now used in cars are already 100% ecological (right here in the USA) . They use acid, which is more spiteful than the alkaline electrolytes used in more bestow batteries. They also use lead, which is a very low-cost metal, and yet a $5 core payment is defensible on these. While these new batteries have nickel, lithium and additional proceeds, and as a upshot they will probably have a core quicker to $300.

I am unusual to know how much nickel is mined for the average hybrid car battery? I’ve heard hybrids toted as the key, but nickel is a top surprise store which must be mined. As I be with you it the batteries are extremely heavy collected of frequently nickel.
