How long are the batteries in a Honda Civic and Toyota Prius expected to last?

I only handbook around 18000 miles a year and a new car cost difference is about $8000 more for the hybrid than the gas translation. the hybrid gets around 40 mpg collective and the gas gets around 28 mpg collective. I typically keep cars a long time (10 yrs or more) and wonder about the longevity/maintence expenditure as well.
