rjm96 questioned:

I am frustrated with the speechifying and politics !
Does all on the hybrid and E85 bandwagon be with you the following?? Observations?? Constructive observations!
Hybirds Reside in a premium over a akin gasoline engine. Antithetical any benefit in fuel mpg gained.
Hybrids have many more batteries made of precious metals lead and nickel not to bring up acid, adding consequence to the vehicle and making serious disposal, ( hazardous equipment) repair and substitution issues.
Hybrids Don’t get somewhere near the EPA estimates in mileage.
Ethanol Causes MPG to drop 20-30 %.Ethanol has less energy ( in BTU’s) then gasoline. Physics
Ethanol Absorbs fill up and is biting. This makes massive Storage space space and transportation issues.( Even if E85 cars are designed for this).
Ethanol Is very tiresome to make yield much more so then gasoline.
Oh, and Bio-diesel is even of poorer quality then any of the privileged than.

ABOUT HYBRID ELECTRIC CARS?

Luis G questioned:

Why, as a substitution for of using 2 engines, they don’t get rid of the combustion engine and exchange it with a gasoline generator engine to payment the batteries as soon as they get to fastidious low level, once completely exciting it will untangle till the the batteries get low again…and so on. This engine would be much smaller.
My reasoning is that, it’s simpler to spin a generator with a small gasoline engine to yield electricity, than force the total consequence of a car. Also by being paid rid of the combustion engine the car would be lighter; We may maybe also aid the Generator with electricity regenerative cleverness positioned on spinning parts of the car.
why can’t this be done?, Is it not economically viable? What would be the problem with this configuration?
Can a name clarify this to me?….thankfulness!

A Prius type hybrid’s performance on a mid-size or a XUV

madderthanthehatter questioned:

I don’t know a lot about car engines and I know less about gripping engines. I’ve heard the Prius type of hybrid will liable be the possibility for all cars. But, I wonder if that tiny 1.3 litre engine has ample guts for a mid-size or generous-size automobile or a intersect XUV to Strike it in order to merge onto the freeway?

I’d like to hear a mechanic’s take on the Prius type of hybrid as to acceleration for the better vehicles, 0 to 60mph, for merging on the freeway. I’d also like to know a mechanic’s attitude whether or not the gasoline engine can take the wear of a lot of long interval highway driving say over five being.

Lastly does the gasoline engine turn a generator or an alternator to make electricity for gripping engine on the handbook teach. The exposure diagram says age assemble, but I judge the gripping engine uses alternating current.
Excellent answers. I questioned in view of the fact that hybrid sales, are only about 5 percent of the total market. But it seems all the majors have announced they are making the changeover. From an fiscal perspective, the engine is a bargain. If the price of gas is a bubble and the bubble bursts then the hybrid is even a BETTER bargain, not a lesser one. You get the savings of the lower gas prices, PLUS added to that the savings from the far better mileage. What you waste on gas each month would seem next to not anything if you horde a V-6 or V-8 before. If the price of gas is not a bubble and the price of gas continues to go up, the hybrid allows you to subdue meet the expense of gas, furthermore, it protects your by and large fiscal proclamation from life decimated by each rising gas prices. Frankly I don’t judge in global warming, but the fiscal compensation of the hybrid are signal. If the engine is as reliable and performs just as excellent as a V-6, you’d be unwise not to buy one, except you like literally burning cash.

A fastidious gasoline engine has an efficiency of 30%; that is, it converts into helpful work 30% of the heat generated by burning a fuel. rsr questioned:

Recently, came across a news condition that said Ford Gala will soon turn up in India. I thought Ford Gala is a hybrid gripping vehicle (HEV), i.e, powered by batteries atleast to some boundary, if not a Plug-in Gripping Vehicle (PHEV) or Battery Gripping Vehicle (BEV) which rely more on battery potential. But, a HEV is dodgy to be introduced in India. I just want to know if it is unfilled in gasoline engine models for Indian market but unfilled in hybrid versions in additional countries or if it is a decently gasoline-powered ICE vehicle. Thankfulness.

Have you pumped gas into your car and watched the numbers go to $50 or $60, maybe you thought about on foot or riding your bike as a substitution for, but did you know that you may maybe trade your car for a fuel- efficient one that gets more miles to the gallon? In America, our vehicles guzzle 85 billion gallons of gasoline fuel each year, and the number is projected to boost by 2.6 percent each year. Public all over the planet have exposed the efficiency of a hybrid car. What is a hybrid car? A hybrid is a small fuel- efficient car that runs of gasoline engine, as well as an gripping motor that assists the engine when accelerating. The gripping motor runs off a battery that charges while you handbook.

Is plug in hybrid better than full electric?

afthefragile questioned:

The largest benefit i see about plug in hybrid cars is that disparate full gripping cars, when your battery runs out, you austerely fill it with gas and it facility. So it doesn’t have the array tribulations that full gripping vehicles seem to have.

But then here’s the added consequence of the gas engine which makes it less efficient than a full gripping and also more pricey.

So are plug in hybrids the join to the possibility or are they just a terrible thought?

Also would it be more efficient to take out the battery back and as a substitution for just have the gasoline engine powering a capacitor or the alternator frankly powering an gripping motor making it more efficient than the plug-in hybrid due to the cut-rate consequence with the lack of a battery pack.

Or does that beat the top of having a car that can run on zero emissions battery potential…??

When driving a Hybrid the gripping motor is used at low speeds, then the gasoline engine kicks in for more potential. Question is how does the gasoline engine turn on or is it always on?
now that I know how the gasoline engine turns on, it does not seem to have any warm up time, so you may maybe be accelerating hard onto a freeway with cold thick oil. must I be apprehensive about unnecessary wear?

home built hybrid car?

hybrid car

travis m questioned:

theoretically, how realistic would this be as a project?

A hybrid car, whos sole thrust for the car would be gripping motor, powered by a bank of batteries, exciting by a gasoline powered generator. As the project progressed, you may maybe even add solar panels, to reduce the demand on the gas powered generator.

It seems at first very simple to build. Pull the gas engine, exchange with a gas-powered generator, add several car batteries (not the best, but positively low-cost), and glue gripping motor to the driveshaft. Compensation to this logic over a ordinary gasoline motor may maybe be better fuel state in view of the fact that the gas motor is only looked-for periodically, and when it is looked-for, it can be run at peak effieciency. Running a gasoline engine at RPM’s privileged than or below its peak potential decreases efficiency, and this logic would keep the RPM’s right where they need to be. This logic would also grant unlimited array compared to a pure gripping, in view of the fact that you may maybe fill up with gasoline at any time
Would this type of conversion be value the time or cash? How much more efficient would the car be? What size gripping motor would be required, and how much would it cost? How many batteries would be required, and what size generator would be looked-for to payment them?
