My 1996 Toyota Camry has been very excellent to me over the being, but I have the feeling she’s being paid a modest exhausted and force be inane to Camry Heaven in a year or two, so I stanch to start reduction for down payment on a new car. I work in phoenix, which is one of the smallest amount public-transportation friendly cities ever, and I live outside the city, about 20 miles away from my job. With gas prices how they are I waste about $50/week on gas. This, collective with the obvious excellent-deed for the background, is making me reflect about maybe reduction a modest superfluous for a Hybrid. What I’m wondering is does it really save you that much cash on gas? I mean, you only use the battery when you’re inane below 25 miles/hour? I travel below 25 miles an hour when I’m pulling out of my driveway and that’s about it. I guess when I’m blocked in conveying but how much gas does that really use? I’m just wondering for the small-not suv-hybrid owners, how much difference do you see in your gas expenses in view of the fact that being paid it?

i was thought that here may maybe be a hybrid that may maybe use alternators emotionally caught up in the rear the tires to genorate and store(in superfluous batteries) electricity that may maybe be used to run an gripping motor. the only problem i can reflect of is that the alternators would add consequence or more resistance which would make the gripping or gas engine work harder. i know that u would yield “free” energy when coasting, but i’m not sure that it would be ample to even make a difference due to the low rpm. i don’t know if anyone else has thought about this or is effective on it. if unknown had tried already, i would try to build a small prototype out of a rc car to try it out. i’d need help even if in view of the fact that i don’t know too much about electricity or any of that material.

Jeff A questioned:

Would a car that ran for 30-50 miles between recharges on electricity only, but may maybe batter straight away to conventional hybrid gripping mode when the batteries ran low work for your lifestyle?

Some hybrid vehicles can be converted to have a longer gripping-only array and give a new lease of life overnight, but so far the foremost auto-makers don’t sell that selection from the factory. Would you be keen to pay a premium over the price of a conventonal hybrid vehicle to get a 30-50 mile array of gripping-only surgical course of action (fleeting go back and into the planet or day shopping) with an gripping-only operating cost cheaper than that of a conventional Domestic combustion engine or HEV? If so, what factors force affect you? Gripping-only array? Early-cost? Early-cost versus fuel-savings? Fuel-savings lonely? Eco-sociability?

PHEV’s can be both cost-effectual, and more eco-friendly! If we can show that market demand is here, perhaps they will come sooner!

This brings me to my question: Are hybrid cars value the superfluous cost? If they are, which ones are thorough the most cost effectual?
