Anneliese asked:

A RESOLUTION INCREASING REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTOMOTIVE EFFICENCY AND EMMISSIONS
1. Whereas, the United States currently consumes over 20 million barrels of oil per
2. day, and
3. Whereas, the United States is responsible for releasing over 140 million pounds of
4. CO2 into the atmosphere each year, and
5. Whereas, there are over 200 million cars on the roads in the United States, and
6. Whereas, many automotive producers have been slow to decrease emissions and
7. increase fuel efficiency, and
8. Whereas, more efficient vehicle will reduce US dependence on oil, and
9. Whereas, a reduction is CO2 emissions would help decrease the progression of
10. global warming, therefore,
11. BE IT RESOLVED by the Student Congress here assembled that the federal
12. government double the current emissions and fuel efficiency standards for vehicles by 13. 2015.

Are hybrid cars really environmental friendly?

Portis asked:

What contaminates more? A fuel powered car, or a battery powered car?

Even thought an electric energy car does not generate CO2 to the atmosphere, the process of making batteries, and the process of making electric energy to recharge those batteries is highly toxic.

Also the process of disposing an electric car battery as big to power a car“s engine is also very hazardous to the environment.

The hydrogen making process to power hydrogen engines is also highly toxic, even if the car does not create any CO2 emissions.

The production of ethanol, makes the food prices increase, and large areas of soil are needed to cultivate corn for making ethanol. If this technology is used, we need a seriously big amount of space to meet the demand, contributing to deforestation, especially in Brazil.

What do you think about all this?

I have a way to improve fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions, how can I make this available to the world?

Mike B asked:

I recently acquired a patent on an engine configuration that increases fuel efficeincy 15-20% and lowers CO2 emissions 15-20%. I have tried to contact major motor companies, but cannot get through to the right people. How do I get in touch with the right people?

Are hybrid cars really so much more environmentally friendly?

James C asked:

Speaking to a man who held a phd in Environmental impcat of Industry, I was given the impression that there is a ‘hidden’ impact of Hybrid cars that is overlooked.

He suggested that some of the reduction in CO2 emissions from the car is ofset by the carbon dioxide produced when generating electricity in power stations. It made sense to me…is this fair, or should I really be looking into a Hybrid car to do my part?

will the ultracapacitor mean increased fuel efficiency in america?

jadeotronic j asked:

hybrids are costly, and they use batteries.

new ultracapacitors can rapidly store charge…energy and release it….such systems could be a lot more efficient when compiled with a battery…one system in the news boasted a car with no use of fuel but the fast charging of an ultracapacitor.

If America REALLY wants to be free of all co2 emissions (which I don’t think causes global warming btw)….and also not be dependent on oil..

Then what we would do is…..

build a huge nexus of nuclear reactors…that charge ‘modules’. from all the cars with this system…which are basically ultracapacitors compiled with a battery.

When you need a charge up…(an ultracapacitor can be charged fairly fast). you go to a ‘gas station’ which has charged up modules, and which you replace. Battery gets you to places if you run out of charge in your ultracapacitor.

no need for fuel in cars….then gas is only used for heating and other things.

Problem with hybrid car owners?

LAURIE S asked:

Hybrid cars are more expensive than ordinary cars and they give off less CO2 emissions. Owners feel they are superior to others because of that. They go all smug and like the smell of their own farts. What do you think….?
