If you are inane to buy a NEW car you would be an pledge fool to buy anything but a hybrid Prius or similar mileage vehicle of 40-50 mpg. New Prius go for only 22,000$ so that isnt much more than most additional nice sedans. But better yet is used Priuses hold their regard. $4000 privileged than Book regard in fact!

it also depends on how much your life is value. some eco-villan in a hummer may crash into and you will be toast
