Ooze90 questioned:

Which decreases the fuel efficiency of your car more: Driving with the windows down (and therefore rising air drag on your car), or using the Air Conditioning (and therefore diverting potential energy away from your engine)?

Tests have shown the difference is minimal except you are driving at high speeds with all the windows open.

Windows down on city streets and AC on the freeway

    air conditioning

Running your air conditioning will utilize a lot of energy that may maybe be washed-out in your engine running more efficiently. Keep your car well tuned up, use full phony oil and get your wheels rotated/car balanced each 2 being at most.

I have heard it is about the same any way.

Dirty air filter and some car maintenance. You force want to get it tuned to get a better gas mileage.

  7. Insomniac says:

The air-con is ordinarily belt-obsessed from the engine. It tends to drain potential -and reasonably a lot- whether on or off.

In the long run, bestow cars are more efficient with the windows clogged and the A/C running on low to ordinary might at speeds of 50-70mph for at smallest amount a few summary.

    1. Do not baffle the gas each time a set alight changes to green.
    2. Over 50 mph use the vent air, do not open the windows more that 2″.

I JUST read an condition on this. I will look for it for you. They found that it didn’t make much difference any way in view of the fact that cars these days are very polished and the ac is efficient. If you have a really ancient vehicle maybe it would matter more.

  11. fscarberry20 says:

Anyone with digital dash that tells you the exact mileage each second, will tell you, using AC uses more gas than having your windows down.

  12. Iceman365 says:

duhhhh mmmm aaaaa-[which therefore makes me feel drunker.] Or, [and and and ahh ahh ahh ya know what i mean? ya know what i mean? ya know what i mean?.] which therefore really annoys you.

  13. tcv7755 says:

windows down saves gas at city speeds, but on the highway, the ac really saves fuel in view of the fact that having the windows down makes drag.

  14. bazza says:

air con uses 3 brake pony potential approx superfluous when on
windows open boost drag the closer you go
