Purely supply and demand. The demand is more and the suppliers can play around with the prices.

Diesel is very much like home heating oil. Trucks then aren't the only users of this product.

Diesel cars are more efficient BUT they do produce more pollution especially particulates.

Another problem is that diesel is not available at every station. It means there is less competition between stations, and it's one reason people here don't love diesel cars.

Diesel engines are more expensive to buy & maintain than gas, too. The public ususally won't pay extra unless there is a good reason. Right now diesel in my town is $4.75 and gasoline only $3.90... so any MPG savings is lost in the higher purchase price.

In America, the public just isn't too fond of them. They don't sell well. I think most of us think modern diesel cars are like the diesel cars of the 70s and 80s: very noisy, smelly, and slow to accelerate. It's incorrect now but people are slow to change their mind.

I agree. I think the Government wants to due away with it. The cars and trucks that are diesel, do last a long long time, I guess they dont get enough taxes from as many sales so charge more on the fuel. You are so right!
