Why not hybrids for nascar?

December 1, 2009 in NASCAR

Did you know that you can save fuel and run your car on water

hybrid battery

raptorbay asked:

The Gas would be used for actual racing , but for pace laps yellow flag laps and entering pits the battery would take over. good idea?

That would be a good idea except to get that kind of gear-shifting and stuff like that it would cost way too much money. NASCAR would never do it.

Because then it would be harder to give Jr a win for saving fuel since everyone else would get great mileage too

The amount of fuel saved would be so minuscule that I don’t think it would be worth it. It would also add weight to the car, making them handle more poorly and hurt you on fuel mileage when you weren’t using the electric power. I’m not trying to discourage you, it’s a good thought, it’s just that I don’t think there would be enough of a benefit to make it viable.

    Hey, you wanna save fuel.

How about we get our troops out of the Mideast. Do you realize how much fuel is burned every second of every minute of every hour of every day to get them there, move them around, patrols, bringing them to search missions.

Helicopter fuels, naval vessel fuels, tanks, APV’s, etc…..

Let them kill each other off, then we go in and take the fuel.

How would you convert that quickly to hybrid?
How much gas would be used under caution (in hybrid) compared to racing, and how much fuel would it save exactly compared to the cost of installing the hybrid system.

It just does not make any sense to me how they would be able to adapt the motor that quickly from on to another during racing. Thats a complex system there. What about the break system too? They are usually different on hybrids.

Honestly, I do not think it would be cost effective and I would need more information, mechanical plans of the car (concept specifics) to make a concrete decision on the matter.

hybrids dont get enough power and the battery would die but it is a good idea but then the cars would have to have to engines and hybrids wast electricity so as a result electricity prices would go up

Lets put mufflers on all race cars and catalytic converters. Especially on NHRA Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters. You know, may as well stop noise pollution as well.

Its a good concept, i just don’t know how well the transition into real like would work out. I think it would be a lot harder than what it seems.

    nascar is not made that

Why not VW Bugs for NASCAR?!!!

The 3 hour stop to plug in the batteries on pit road would lose alot of positions I think.
