    Figure it all out in miles per gallon.

    First convert the 8.5 liters to gallons using the conversion formula .
    1 Liter = 0.264172052637296 Gallons

    Next convert the kilometers to miles using the conversion formula.
    1 Kilometer = 1.6 miles.

    miles/gal=km/litre X litres/gal X miles/km
    miles/gal= 100/8.5 X 1/0.26417 X 0.62137/1
    miles/gal= 27.67

    The Ford Escape has the better fuel efficiency.
    Note: I used 1 litre= 0.26417 gal (U.S)
    For Imperial gal, the conversion factor is 1 litre=0.21998 gal
    Using that would give 33.23 mpg. Escape still better
