Did you know that you can save fuel and run your car on water

fuel efficiency

Maikah asked:

My 2001 Dodge Stratus with over 115,000 miles is running pretty well averaging 21-23 MPG… but i think it is running a little too rich because the tail pipe is covered with a thick coat of carbon when i tried to clean it with a white cotton cloth dipped with gasoline… i do not drive with a heavy foot on the accelerator and i use Chevron’s fuel injector cleaner once a month to make sure i have a clean injector for maximum fuel efficiency… but with gas prices costing over $4.35 per gallon, i want to make my car run as efficiently as possible… how can i adjust the fuel injector to make it run more lean? I was told the fuel injector can not be adjusted because it is conrolled by the car’s computer. But another person told me it can be adjusted. Please respond only if you have actual knowledge or actual experience in adjusting fuel injectors for Dodge cars. Do Not respond with silly answers such as suggesting to take my car to a mechanic or to the Dealership. Thank you.

Well if you want it more lean then just do it. Get a different slice of meat! stay away from ribe-eye its fatty, but the New york strip is great, or the filet.

NO they are NOT adjustable by you (or anybody else).

But they probably can use a cleaning. Throw in a can (or bottle) of fuel injector cleaner in your gas. They really work.

If you are passing the emission, then you are not running rich.

    Good Luck…

You can’t adjust the injectors. They are controlled by how long the computer holds themopen at a certain fuel pressure. Check the fuel pressure. You miught have one stuck open. Also, any sensor on that engine can affect this too. Say for instance the engine coolant sensor is bad. This would make it put more fuel in thinking that it is a cold engine when it is actually warm. First thing is to have the codes checked. Autozone can do this if you don’t have an OBD 2 scanner. After that I would check the fuel pressure. Then you are probably over your head at that point. Time for mechanic or live with it.

If you’re averaging 21-23 mpg, I’m envious. Therefore, if it ain’t broke, leave it be. Besides, if your stratus would be running rich, you would know because the check engine light would be on. That’s the reason for the oxygen sensors. And, the injectors are regulated by the fuel pressure regulator.

you can not adjust the injector on time. that is set by the cpu. you can have the various sensors checked for accuracy, like the maf, cts, o2 sensors. there is a long list that just goes on. you might just be due for a simple tune up and air filter.

You need expertise on what u are asking for and u should Not attempt to do it yourself unless u know what u’r doing. However, in answer to your question Yes; u can adjust the fuel injectors. The way in which almost all cars control fuel injectors are thru the computer(not advisable to modify) and thru the Fuel pressure regulator(which is what is modifiable). YOU can only do this if you u have the Right TOOLS and Only if they make what they call an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for your car. Many cars run at fairly high fuel pressure and will surely leak(can u say FIRE) if you mess with it without knowing what you are doing. Hopefully this answers your question. (8-)

mdk is right, I wouldnt worry about it. I have a 04 Intrepid and I get 28 city mileage on BP fuel. If it was running lean, you would also smell it too. Carbon build up is pretty common so dont really worry about it too much unless you feel like you need to replace your injectors. Oh and watch for your tranny fucking up. Mine has 112,000 miles and my tranny is almost shot, and its gonna cost 2 grand to fix it.
