James asked:

I have a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid. When the doors are remotely locked or unlocked, the horn beeps. Is there a way to configure the remote so the horn does not sound? I find it very annoying, particularly when I am locking or unlocking the vehicle in a quiet neighorhood at night. I can find nothing in the manual about disabling the horn sound, but I am hoping someone else has faced this problem and figured out how to disable the horn sound.

Try not using the remote. It works on our newer Ford. Just lock it from the door panel & unlock it with the key.

The horn is part of the anti theft system, you can pull the wiring diagram and clip the wire to the horn, you still will be able to use your horn as normal. If you do this then the anti theft system (alarm) will not be able to use the horn as an audio alert to theft… a theft deterrent. Personally I like the horn acting as a arm / disarm alert, when I cannot see my car, or I am in a building I know the alarm is activated, PLUS if a door or the liftgate is ajar the alarm makes three consecutive beeps. Also usually fords only beep when you hit the remote more than once, hitting it once is silent which will flash the parking lights, twice chirps the horn.

the horn should only sound once the lock button is pressed twice. most all manufacturers do this as a convenience feature so you know it’s locked while walking away. if you just press the button once you shouldn’t have any problems. but if this annoys you take the vehicle back to the dealership and inquire with them if they can take it out of the security module’s program. it should be able to be done with a NGS (ford factory scan tool)

Pull the horn fuse, no other way. You will not have horn though…
