what will be the the source of energy of the future if and when oil becomes depleted?

Did you know that you can save fuel and run your car on water
bingo asked:
since crude oil is the fuel that is very easily available and cheaper than other sources what wll our future cars and trucks run on in the future when oil becomes depleted .if you are saying hydrogen then isnt it very dangerous and extremely volatile.

Oil is a renewable resource.
Methane & alcohol look pretty promising.
sunlight. because sunlight is the main source of energy and ultimately it will solve energy problems.
It’s timely that you ask this question – I am currently reading the book, “The End of Oil,” which addresses this very issue. I’ve only just begun the book, but it looks like we have another 30 years before the oil supply will start seeing a sharp decrease. The fall in the oil supply will coincide with an increase in demand for energy, which spells TROUBLE. Hopefully within 30 years time our brilliant engineers and scientists will have come up with a solution to the volatile and dangerous nature of hydrogen…
BIO-FUEL may be! or may be the solar Energy.
it wont happen.
>>>> what will be the the source of energy of the future

We can’t even speculate. We have enough oil in the form of coal oil and shale to last us about a thousand years. (See first link below). Speculating about what fuel we will use in 1000 years time is pointless. Can you imagine a person in the dark ages trying to speculate about what fuel we would be using and accurately predicting nuclear power or even the jet engine? Impossible.
The world of 3000AD, when the oil is finally depleted, will be even more alien to us than the modern world would be to King Richard. We can’t even begin to speculate sensibly about what energy sources they might have discovered. Much less what they will use to fuel them.

Never mind volatile and dangerous, hydrogen simply isn’t an energy source, it’s an energy drain. We can get energy out of oil or coal by burning then. We have to put large amounts of energy INTO water to generate hydrogen, and we get a small fraction of that back when we burn the hydrogen
Hydrogen may have a role as an energy storage medium fro transport, but it can never, ever be an energy source unless we develop fusion technology.
>>>>> Methane & alcohol look pretty promising.
Methane and alcohol are not energy sources, they are energy storage, just like a battery. It takes about 2 litres of petroleum to produce a litre of ethanol or the equivalent amount of methane. Theys imply can not be used as an energy sources. See link 2 below.
Added to that there simply isn’t enough land on Erath to grow the crops needed to allow methane or alcohol to replace more than a few percent of the world’s oil use. (See link 3 below)
of course it would happen… and crude is a non-renewable energy source… It took billions years before it formed…well, aside from hydrogen, of course the sun would be the best source,..
