For a design project I have to improve a passenger plane making it more enviormental, Need your help?
peter s questioned:
I know you wont know how to boost their efficiency (or maybe u wil) but where may maybe i start? any tips?
Some suggestions already are to:
Reduce the consequence of the plane so it uses less fuel
Use a uncommon type of paint on the plane to reduce friction from air
Need help finding the propulsive efficiency of a turbojet engine?
anton questioned:
i got a investigate problem.
deliberate Two generous turbojet engines each with inlet area 15ft^2 are mounted on a transport aircraft cruising at 390kts and 25000ft(where air density is 1.066×10^-3 slug/ft^3) the drag coefficient C for the air craft in cruise configuration is 0.05 and the allusion wing area( S) is 250,0ft^2.
a) Assess the propulsive efficiency ignoring the role of the fuel added to the airflow.
b) if the fuel-air ratio (by mass) is 0.025,recalculate the efficiency of the engine.
(Hint:for this part you will need to enter down an face for the waste potential (rate of boost of kinetic energy),compelling into tab of superfluous mass of fuel.)
single or twin engine?
Ping G questioned:
if the RFP requires for helicopter that has high fuel efficiency as much as must be able to glide in congested area, must a helicopter has release or twin engine?
Airplanes and Solar Panels?
T L questioned:
With the very public relief a few weeks ago of the Boeing 787 (Boeing’s pledge to the like a log shown A380), it seems that the airline industry is starting to publicly take up fuel efficiency as compared to interval traveled. Of course this is a hypothetical circumstances, but would it be physically possible, or at smallest amount realistic, to construct an aircraft fuselage upon which was positioned not a standardized top, but a run of enclosed photovoltaic cells to grant incomplete potential for a long-haul trip?
Is freight shipped on certified air carriers?
josephr33 questioned:
I’m looking at some data for air goods conveying and air conveying is differentiated into general aviation and qualified send air carriers. I was wondering whether most air goods is shipped using qualified send air carriers, or whether a significant part is shipped using general aviation. (I’m tiresome to set up fuel efficiency for air goods, so any info on that would be caring too.)
Thankfulness for the pledge–would UPS or FedEx be thorough a qualified carrier as well?
Efficiency and aerodynamics?
Barry Nabelsi questioned:
Bestow planes are very inefficient by aerodynamical principles, in view of the fact that the engines are lynching out, this produces drag, besides, they are pencil shaped, the wings, fuselage, tail, engines, all yield drag.
So I have been thought, a flying wing top greatly reduces drag and increases the consequence/array ratio, the engines must be built-in. These planes have been proven greatly effectual, lets use the B-2 for an model:
* Max impression consequence: 376,000 lb (170,600 kg)
* Maximum speed: Mach 0.95 (525 knots, 604 mph, 972 km/h)
* Cruise speed: Mach 0.85[32] (470 knots, 541 mph, 870 km/h)
* Array: 6,000 nmi (11,100 km (6,900 mi))
* Service ceiling: 50,000 ft (15,200 m)
* Wing loading: 67.3 lb/ft² (329 kg/m²)
* Thrust/consequence: 0.205
Compared to the 747, it is less efficient, but its array is stuck-up, so is its fuel efficiency. I am sure that if a flat wing top is adapted, the engineers will come up with something better than the 747, with all, only a few flying wing designs have been bent.
So why not adapt the flying wing top for cash-making jets? is it expenditure?
Aircraft Efficiency: Bristol Britannia-Twin Engine?
John questioned:
May maybe a Bristol Brattania be converted to a twin engine for fuel efficiency? Here is what I had in mind:
1. It is already one of the more flourishing and efficient crafts each bent (like those abstruse wings). I infer this would also work on the Electra.
2. Each engine had about 4,000 SHP (16,000 collective total)
3. Exchange those 4 with two of the Europrop TP400’s (down rated to 9,000 shp from 11,000; this will give max. potential at privileged alt.) for a collective total of 17,000 SHP.
4. Convert the props to contra rotating props. This will allocate shorter slower turning props and therefore slower tip speed for cool down surgical course of action.
It seems to me this must offer akin normal, maybe vaguely improved with new prop equipment, even stuck-up array, and a lower seat cost.
So, do speed+ glide = efficiency?
mica h questioned:
The “flattest glide ” question was excellent and got me thought. I am not an sell something to a name in the smallest amount so bear with any dumb questions. Efficiecny in an aircraft would eventually be achieved with super long wings and an efficient,small engine (like Explorer). No excellent for Civilians. So a pleased ordinary. Ahead of schedule Mooneys had longer wings.(I don’t know now.) So at some top, part(lift) cripples speed yes? So a jet that has idiotic thrust only just wants any wing and may maybe be near ballistic, yes? It would gorge fuel even if. So I guess my question is how much these factors chat bestow civilian aircraft. (excepting huge cor[porate jets that don’t need much efficiency). Are todays prop/turbo-prop aircraft the exact mix collectively of lift and speed(speed life dictated by price importance the privileged the cost the closer a name wants to go). I question in view of the fact that I know Avgas isn’t too low-cost…
How much would a winglets conversion cost?
TIm questioned:
how much would a winglets conversion cost let’s just say on a 737 or 757 what hasn’t got winglets. Ive noticed that lots of airlines are now having the conversions done in view of the fact that of fuel efficiency.
How to make a small aircraft controlled with a remote?
farhan p questioned:
i want to know how to make a small aircraft proscribed by a diffident and tat can reside in atleast 10kgs…i want it to be small approx. d size of a shoe box or a modest better…whic clarification to use??whic engines to use??would small kerosene engines yield ample potential wit excellent fuel efficiency??? it would be splendid if u may maybe help me out wit it…thankfulness!!!

What private businesses working on space flight?
dave questioned:
What confidential businesses are effective on interval running away additional than SpaceShipOne/SpaceShipTwo that is a spaceplane, SpaceShipOne is an experimental air-launched suborbital spaceplane that uses a hybrid rocket motor..
And SpaceX reusable launch vehicles – the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 – and the Dragon run of interval capsules. SpaceX designs, tests and fabricates ..
Who are effective on Release-the boards-to-orbit SSTO ? Any countries or confidential businesses workin on it ?
Was Bigelow not effective on some business ..
could there be such thing as a hybrid airplane?
x questioned:
we have hybrid cars may maybe they make airplanes that may maybe run that way too?
Air Craft Fuel Effieciency?
John questioned:
What is the fuel efficiency in stipulations of passenger miles per gallon for:
A. 737/A320 (Completely Loaded)
Prop Plane (ATR72 or Q400 completely loaded)
Take upon yourself both planes are flying the same send, say a 400 mile Trip.
What about a 1,000 mile trip (high and mighty the props have ample fuel for such a trip)?
Thankfulness–John
Fuel Efficiency Aircraft-LONG RANGE?
John questioned:
No skepticism you have all read the same intelligence I have, that turboprops are making a comeback in view of the fact that of their efficiency.
My question is IF a long array prop were made, using bestow equipment, in the 150-200 passenger array, what kind of efficiency may maybe be achieved? This would be a 3000 mile capable array aircraft.
ENGINEERS: I know about TP’s life efficient on fleeting legs, so no need to go here. I am attracted in comparing apples to apples. I have read that a typical completely loaded 737 can top 70 passenger miles/gallon, most likely on a 2-3000 mile running away. What would be possible with a 4 engine long array passenger turboprop over the same interval, designed from scrape? Note: the Q’s and ATR’s come accurate to 70ppm on fleeting legs (completely loaded flying 600+ miles), so longer distances must be even better in view of the fact that cruising uses less fuel.
I guess that earnings our hypothetical wonder prop would need to top 30,000 ft. at cruise to really realize this goal, but maybe not.
Just wondering,
John
Are hybrid jet engines a real possibility?
Just Lovely questioned:
Like hybrid cars that utilize battery and gas, will a similar complex be possible for aircraft – maybe fleeting-haul airliners?
on second view – jet engines work due to heated compressd air life debarred at splendid break down, so battery potential would have no look here? maybe just to help in the spinning of the fans ?
I have an idea in aeroplane design, that can improve flight efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Contact?
murali_siddharth questioned:
My thought will reduce cost in fuel consumption to 50% and also the the new top is simple to implement.
How does my presence on an airplane effect its fuel efficiency?
A Baby Ate My Dingo questioned:
If, say, a 777 takes off weighing 500,000 pounds vs. 500,230 pounds (180 pounds of me, 40 pounds of luggage and 10 superfluous pounds of food and go the airline adds), how many more pounds of fuel will be used in view of the fact that I am on board?
Bitburger: I am astonished at the precision of your pledge. Would you be kind ample to tell me how you calculated it?
Opp…I forgot to add:
Take upon yourself I’m roving 1,500 miles.
Besides fuel efficiency, what are the advantages (for the passenger) of flying on the Boeing 777 versus the?
Joe.R questioned:
747? I know that the 747 is wider than any additional twin engine aircraft (which are so in rage now). That is certainly NOT an benefit for the passenger, no matter how you look at it.
Maybe here are some additional compensation that I have not thought of? Are the seats typically more open? The aisles wider? Larger bathrooms? Quieter or smoother ride?
Or is the current trend to use smaller twin-engine aircraft terrible for the consumer in nearly each way?
Aircraft CG and Fuel Efficiency?
FranciscoM questioned:
I judge that an aircraft loaded with an aft CG (surrounded by it’s Limits), must be more fuel efficient.
Is this right? Why or why not.
Delight grant allusion for 10pts.
