For real-world experiences and data on savings, ask a hybrid owner who has actually driven the car for several years. Plenty of them hang out here:
I am a frequent of this blog…. They have great information on hybrids, and links to other sites with good information as well.
many more hybrid owners in the forums here:
Same or less maintenance in general for a hybrid compared to a conventional vehicle.
The problem is, not all hybrids are created equal. Different manufacturers use different technologies, some with more degrees of hybridization than another. Even among the same manufacturer, some hybrids are tuned for more performance while others for more fuel economy. Also, many hybrid models tend to have standard features that are only found on the higher trim lines of the gasoline-only versions of that model (compare the Toyota Camry Hybrid with the Camry XLE, for example).
Would you do a financial comparison for a 4 cylinder vs a 6 cylinder gasoline engine of the same vehicle? A gasoline vs diesel engine? What’s the financial reasons for adding a better sound system, leather seats, or a navigation system?
