  1. linlyons says:

    none.
CO2 production will be reduced considerably, but not eliminated by a long shot.
there will be an increase in the use, and probably accidental release, of several toxic chemicals.

however, hybrids are a good thing, even if far from perfect.

Easy, tail pipe emissions will be eliminated in electric vehicles.

Well first of all there is only an order of magnitude between the emissions of the standard internal combustion engine ( ICE) vehicle and a hybrid. Depending upon how the hybrid technology is implemented the difference may be only slight.

The all electric vehicle is another animal all together. There are many forms of pollution and many perspectives to look at the issue. From a social point of view you may be concerned about all pollution and emissions that are generated from standing in a forest by a stream to sitting in your ICE or electric vehicle.

Both ICE powered vehicles and all electric vehicles are produced from parts that must be manufactured, but the ICE has more parts and these require more transportation that will be more polluting.

Protecting, pumping, transporting, refining, distributing and using petrochemicals all involves pollutants. Only some of these are emissions in the air.

Electricity is mostly a product from domestic sources so protecting it is far less costly and pollution producing. Some of that pollution may be emissions especially where products are transported with existing vehicle powered by an ICE.

Only some electricity is produced with oil and subject to the same petrochemical pollution trail. Mostly what is produced is not pumped. About 1/2 of it is mined as coal.

Some transportation will be by diesel engines on rail tracts and some may be by diesel ships or trucks all of these produce emissions.

Most electricity does not come from products that need refining. This stage will therefore produce less pollution.

And lastly there is the use of electricity in an all electric vehicle. There are NO emissions.
