Are US politicians out of the mimd on ethanol production sources?

Did you know that you can save fuel and run your car on water

fuel efficiency

jp l questioned:

Why they promote corn and additional grains as sources as a substitution for sugarcanes which have at smallest amount 3X more efficient ethanol? Why use something will erode soil with the need of bounty of fertilizers while sugarcane only demand modest? Are they really for the background or just plain green? Perhaps they really work for fossil-fuel corporations to prevent ethanol efficiency compelling over?

I have seen the faked graphs from the EPA:

They equate the efficieny from ethanol refineries with COGENERATION with fixed refineries for biodiesel… how dishonest…

No energy-environmental declaration from the US can surprise me any longer

  2. Scott L says:

They are not for the background, they are for potential.

If we may maybe grow honey cane to the boundary we may maybe grow corn in the US we would.

  3. Mike says:

Many of our legislators receive cash from the producers of corn based ethanol such as Archer Daniels Midland.

    That must pledge your question.

  4. erikfaraway says:

You must live in Mexico or maybe South America… Honey cane doesn’t grow somewhere north of the Mason Dixon line here in the USA and I reflect you’ll find it sticky even in the deep south.

Really, I can show you figures for alcohol production from grasses that would surprise you, but very hard to really yield.

Algae would be a Stuck-up form of un-esterfied bio-diesel, if you don’t mind huge our deserts with ocean fill up and feeding the logic with raw creature dirt.

Bottom line, not anything is as unadorned as you’ve been led to judge.

    Reflect Nuclear…

  5. Lester P says:

They’re just inane where the simplest votes and campaign donations are, grain farmers in the midwest. Just call them Huge Corn as a substitution for of Huge Oil.

  6. Noone N says:

Corn farmers and processors are a much better voting block than honey cane farmers/processors. While honey cane is developed on the U.S. Gulf coast, corn is developed all owing to the midwest as well as in the west. Politicians are only attracted in votes. This is right the planet over, not just the U.S.

Some of your additional statements, but, top headed for a serious top of ignorance, but. For model, do you realize that the U.S. is in fact the chief producer of fuel grade ethanol? Also, the honey cane fields I saw in Texas and Louisiana used sweet much the same fertilizers as corn or cotton fields? Cash-making farmers are inane to do what ever they can to make the most of production.

The sad part is that any of us reflect that politicians really know anything about alternate energy.

But I am sure that the pure data that they get from the PAC is not skewed in any way headed for the corporations that fund their elections.

I must not be surprised then that they don’t know that here is not ample acres in the USA to grow the quantity of corn looked-for to fuel the fleet of vehicles we have on the roads now, much less in the possibility. That earnings that we will have to rely on additional countries, like Venezuela or more liable Brazil, to give our energy. Of course those countries would not hold us criminal over energy like OPEC is doing.

In the end ethanol, but it is made, it is subdue burned making co2, the green household gas we are tiresome to Get out of with alternate fuels. We need to do investigate on truely green fuels not stop gap measures.

  8. Mike says:

The problem is that corn is developed on a much wider extent and is much more unfilled. It’s cheaper in the fleeting run. And besides, politicians have never been much excellent at knowledge. I’ll bite my tongue and stay cool down about Al Gore.

    read this about ethanol production
Only transient Aliens may maybe have aproved that.

They are intending to exchange most of the native Forrest’s in the planet ,with mono cultures for the production of Ethanol,

Non sustainable, chemically developed ,like a log irrigated (with fill up looked-for for communities)one specie Forrest’s,that have only plagues of insects as fauna which are proscribed with pesticides.

Butchery all bio diversity,in both sow life and fauna ,adding to the destruction and extinction of species ,like not anything we have ever seen before.

All in the quest for uncommon energy and to save the Background ,

The irony here is that the on the rise enthusiasm to slow climate chat by using biofuels and planting millions of plants for carbon credits has resulted in new foremost causes of deforestation, say activists. And that is making climate chat of poorer quality in view of the fact that deforestation puts far more greenhouse gases into the ambiance than the entire planet’s fleet of cars, trucks, planes, trains and ships collective.

“Biofuels are rapidly apt the main yield of deforestation in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Brazil,” said Simone Lovera, administration administrator of the Global jungle Coalition, an environmental NGO based in Asunción, Paraguay. “We call it ‘deforestation diesel’,” Lovera told IPS.

Oil from African palm plants is thorough to be one of the best and cheapest sources of biodiesel and energy companies are investing billions into acquiring or developing oil-palm plantations in developing countries. Vast tracts of Jungle in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and many additional countries have been inane to grow oil palms. Oil palm has become the planet’s number one fruit crop, well yet to be of bananas.

Biodiesel offers many environmental benefits over diesel from petroleum, including reductions in air pollutants, but the giant global thirst earnings millions more hectares may maybe be converted into monocultures of oil palm. Being paid accurate numbers on how much Jungle is life lost is very tiresome.

The FAO’s State of the Planet’s Forests 2007 released last week intelligence that globally, net Jungle loss is 20,000 hectares per day — equivalent to an area double the size of Paris. But, that number includes plantation forests, which masks the real boundary of tropical deforestation, about 40,000 hectares (ha) per day, says Matti Palo, a Jungle economics expert who is affiliated with the Tropical Agricultural Investigate and Privileged Culture Center (CATIE) in Costa Rica.

“The half a million ha per year deforestation of Mexico is roofed by the boost of forests in the U.S., for model,” Palo told IPS.

National governments grant all the data, and countries like Canada do not yield anything reliable, he said. Canada has claimed no net chat in its forests for 15 being even with life the chief producer of pulp and paper. “Canada has a genteel dependability to tell the rest of the planet what kind of changes have full place here,” he said.

Plantation forests are not anything like natural or native forests. More akin to a field of maize, plantation forests are hostile environments to near each animal, bird and even insects. Such forests have been shown to have a unenthusiastic impression on the fill up logic in view of the fact that non-native, quick-on the rise plants use high volumes of fill up. Pesticides are also often used to suppress competing growth from additional plants and to prevent disease outbreaks, also impacting fill up feature.

Plantation forests also offer very few employment opportunities, ensuing in a net loss of jobs. “Plantation forests are a tremendous disaster for biodiversity and community public,” Lovera said. Even if farmland or savanna are only used for oil palm or additional plantations, it often forces the community public off the land and into close forests, including national parks, which they apparent to grow crops, meadow animals and assemble firewood. That has been the pattern with pulp and lumber plantation forests in much of the planet, says Lovera.

Ethanol is additional foremost biofuel, which is made from maize, honey cane or additional crops. As prices for biofuels climb, more land is inane to grow the crops. U.S. farmers are switching from soy to maize to meet the ethanol demand. That is having a blow on look of pushing up soy prices, which is driving the conversion of the Amazon rainforest into soy, she says. Meanwhile rich countries are starting to sow plants to offset their emissions of carbon dioxide, called carbon sequestration. Most of this planting is compelling place in the South in the form of plantations, which are just the newest risk to unfilled forests. “Europe’s carbon credit market may maybe be disastrous,” Lovera said.

The multi-billion-euro European carbon market does not permit the use of reforestation projects for carbon credits. But here has been a tremendous rush in confidential companies donation such credits for tree planting projects. Very modest of this cash goes to small land holders, she says. Plantation forests also contain much less carbon, clarification Palo, citing a contemporary study that showed carbon content of plantation forests in some Asian tropical countries was only 45 percent of that in the respective natural forests. Nor has the planet union been able to by the book tab for the regard of the giant volumes of carbon stored in unfilled forests.

One contemporary assess found that the northern Boreal Jungle provided 250 billion dollars a year in ecology air force such as absorbing carbon emissions from the ambiance and cleaning fill up. The excellent news is that deforestation, even in diffident areas, is basically bunged. All it takes is access to some low-cost satellite imagery and governments that really want to slow or halt deforestation. Costa Rica has near eliminated deforestation by making it illegal to convert Jungle into farmland, says Lovera.

Paraguay enacted similar laws in 2004, and then evenly check satellite metaphors of its forests, carriage forestry officials and police to enforce the law where it was life debased. “Deforestation has been cut-rate by 85 percent in less than two being in the eastern part of the public,” Lovera prominent. The additional part of the key is to give hegemony over forests to the community public. This union or model Jungle thought has proved to be sustainable in many parts of the planet. India recently voted for a bill persistent the bulk of its forests back to community communities for management, she said.

But, fiscal wellbeing pushing deforestation in countries like Brazil and Indonesia are so powerful, here may eventually be modest natural Jungle left. “Governments are admittance to realize that their natural forests have giant regard left standing,” Lovera said. “A pause or ban on deforestation is the only way to stop this.”
